Teesside International Airport adds Malaga flights
A new route to Malaga will launch from Teesside International Airport from next year.
Ryanair will operate twice-weekly flights to the Costa del Sol starting March 31, running through to late October.
Bosses say the route fulfils a long-standing request from passengers and supports Tees Valley mayor Ben Houchen’s pledge to expand travel options.
Mayor Houchen said: “When I make a promise, I keep it – and I am absolutely thrilled to deliver this new route to Malaga for our passengers.
“The people of Teesside, Darlington, and Hartlepool have been asking for more sunshine destinations, and we’ve delivered exactly that with Ryanair’s fantastic support.
“This is a huge win for our airport and our region, but we’re not stopping here. Our goal is to keep growing, breaking records, and getting more holiday flights for local people."
This announcement follows a strong summer season for Ryanair at the airport, with high demand for routes to Majorca, Faro, and Corfu. The airline has also extended its 2024 Corfu schedule and continues to offer year-round flights to Alicante.
The airport, which earlier this year reported its first profit since returning to public ownership, is enjoying record passenger numbers and ongoing development, which includes a new business park, landmark FedEx flights and the recent launch of a new aircraft painting facility operated by Airbourne Colours.
Phil Forster, the airport's managing director, added: “We’re always working to secure more popular flights for destinations holidaymakers want to see, and this is a great addition to our departure boards.
“This is testament to everyone’s hard work and our great partnership with Ryanair. While there are still big challenges ahead in the aviation industry, we’ll keep at it and keep working to secure and retain more routes to bolster the future of our airport.”
